Phuket Airport grounded: Power cut leaves flights in the dark

Phuket International Airport experienced a short-lived power outage last night due to a failure in the Provincial Electricity Authority's (PEA) 115kV electricity distribution system. The disruption began at 6:25 PM on August 6 and impacted the Thalang district, including the airport area, according to the Airports of Thailand Phuket branch (AoT Phuket).

Immediate Response and Restoration

The outage was caused by damage to PEA’s transmission system, which disrupted the electricity supply. However, Phuket Airport's backup generators swiftly kicked in, ensuring that critical systems within the passenger and office buildings remained functional. This prevented significant disruptions to aviation services during the power failure.

The PEA acted promptly to resolve the issue, restoring electricity to the airport by 6:40 PM. Full electrical service was resumed by 6:50 PM, as confirmed by AoT Phuket. The airport authority extended apologies for any inconvenience caused and thanked passengers and stakeholders for their patience and understanding.

Other Power-Related Updates

In related news, Baan Manik in Srisoonthorn experienced a scheduled power outage on July 27. The Thalang branch of the PEA announced that the outage, which lasted from 9 AM to 4:30 PM, was necessary for repairs and maintenance on the high-voltage system. The affected areas included the stretch from the entrance of Wat Thepwanaram (Wat Manik) to in front of Manik Hill in Moo 7, Srisoonthorn.

Pattaya Infrastructure Upgrade

In other developments, Pattaya is set to undergo a major upgrade to its electrical infrastructure. Mayor Poramet Ngampichet has outlined ambitious plans to modernize the electrical system in the popular Walking Street area. The project, which was finalized in a City Hall meeting on July 24, aims to improve the city's electrical grid and enhance public safety. The PEA has requested access to Lot 6 of the electrical system development project, focusing on Zone 3, which spans from Royal Garden Plaza to Walking Street.

Stay tuned for more updates on these ongoing infrastructure improvements and their impact on local communities.
