Bayern Munich delivered a spectacular performance in their first Champions League group stage match of the season, defeating Dinamo Zagreb 9-2 at the Allianz Arena. The victory, which marked Bayern’s largest win in the competition, was led by a sensational four-goal performance from England captain Harry Kane. Additional goals came from Michael Olise (2), Raphaël Guerreiro, Leroy Sané, and Leon Goretzka.

The game saw Bayern take a commanding 3-0 lead by halftime, putting them in control. However, Dinamo Zagreb staged a brief comeback at the start of the second half, scoring two quick goals to make it 3-2. Bayern, however, regained control with Sven Ulreich making a key save after replacing Manuel Neuer at halftime. Kane’s 4th goal shortly after put the momentum firmly back in Bayern’s favor, securing their dominant win.

The highlight of the match was Harry Kane’s historic achievement. By netting four goals, Kane became the highest-scoring English player in Champions League history, surpassing Wayne Rooney’s 30-goal record. With his total now at 33, Kane humbly acknowledged the achievement, stating, “Whenever you’re in a conversation with Wayne Rooney, it means you’re doing something well.”

This was Kane’s second consecutive hat-trick, having scored three goals in Bayern’s recent 6-1 Bundesliga victory over Holstein Kiel. Since joining from Tottenham last summer, Kane has already tallied six hat-tricks for Bayern, proving his worth as one of Europe’s top strikers. After the match, Kane joked about his tradition of collecting match balls after hat-tricks, adding that his son Louis, a budding football fan, enjoys seeing them displayed at home.

With this win, Bayern Munich not only sent a message to the rest of Europe but also celebrated Kane’s extraordinary feat as he continues to break records and make history on the Champions League stage.
