Night traffic affected as Phuket Town cable burying project continues

Motorists in Phuket Town are advised to avoid certain road sections during nighttime hours due to ongoing construction work aimed at improving the area’s infrastructure. The project involves installing power and communication cables underground, which is expected to enhance both convenience and safety for residents and tourists.

Road Closures and Impacted Areas

The Phuket City Municipality has announced that work is underway on Thepkrasattri Rd, Dibuk Rd, and Phuket Rd. This project, which started on November 14 of last year and is set to complete by November 7 this year, aims to install all power and communication cables underground, enhancing Phuket's appeal as a top tourist destination.

Current construction began on August 11 and will continue until August 17. During this period, high-voltage cable manholes are being installed on Phuket Rd, particularly in front of the Accounting Office and near the U-turn by Wanchai shop, as well as on Thepkrasattri Rd, in front of Roland Furniture and opposite Soi Jai Uthit.

Construction Schedule

The work will be carried out nightly from 9 PM to 5 AM. Motorists should expect the temporary closure of one traffic lane in the affected areas during these hours. This closure is necessary to facilitate the safe installation of cable manholes and the subsequent underground cabling.

Public Advisory

Mayor Saroj Angkhanapilas has urged the public to avoid traveling through these areas during construction times and to avoid parking along the road shoulders within the work zones. Motorists are advised to exercise caution and seek alternative routes to minimize delays.
