The driver who beat up the Thai female passenger due to a fare dispute...

A Thai woman has taken to TikTok to warn other users about her experience with the Bolt ride-hailing app, where a rider in Bangkok physically assaulted her after she refused to pay his inflated fare.

Yesterday, June 12, the rape victim shared a video of the beating on her TikTok account, @picnicka, captured by a security camera. The alleged victim was from the Bolt app and was not wearing an app jacket.

The woman recounted in the caption of the video that she booked a ride on June 11 at 9:30 a.m. from Huay Kwang district in Bangkok's Phra Khanong district to Soi On Nut 41. The shipping cost shown in the app is 66 baht.

Upon reaching the destination, the rider requested to cancel the ride and was asked to hand over the phone to cancel the ride. As shown in the app, the woman canceled the ride and paid 66 baht.

The rider refused to accept payment and asked her for more money, but she refused. The woman then took a photo of the rider and sent it to the Bolt app's user officer to ask why the surcharge was being charged.

Her actions enraged the rider and forced him to fight until he collapsed. CCTV footage shared on TikTok showed the attacker repeatedly kicking and punching the victim.

The woman was taken to Vibharam Hospital and later reported to Phra Khanong Police Station.

Although the police have not identified the attacker, the Red Skull Twitter account announced on June 13 that the attacker has been arrested by the police. However, the details of legal action against the rider have not yet been released.

Citing similar incidents involving riders from the app, many Thai netizens were outraged at the perceived negligence of the Bolt app. Some users criticized the app for failing to perform background checks on riders, putting users at risk.

At the same time, a security guard who arrived at the scene was distracted and did not enter the scene to help. But some guards defended him, citing previous incidents in which guards his age had lost their lives in similar situations.

In a related story from March, a Thai woman sought help from local motorcycle taxi riders on Bangkok's Sirindhorn Road after noticing that her Bolt rider was half-naked.

Another story related to the Bolt app was reported in October last year when a Bolt taxi driver overcharged a Thai woman. The driver charged 1,350 baht for a 30-minute ride that would have cost only 300-400 baht.
