A Thai monk has been arrested on charges of sexual abuse and drug use

A Thai monk has been arrested for sharing obscene content on a social networking platform and using drugs. A priest admitted to having sex with several men during his monastic life and was infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

Twitter account Red Skull shared candid photos of a 24-year-old Thai monk on May 13. Warut shared himself and his private parts on his Facebook account.

Warut also shared a photo of a young novice sleeping with him at the temple, raising concerns about child sexual abuse. The post went viral among Thai netizens, prompting an investigation by relevant authorities and Warut's arrest on Tuesday. He was arrested on June 11.

Officers from the High-Tech Crime Branch raided Warut's lodgings at a temple in Sa Kaeo district and found him inside the compound.

During questioning, Warut revealed some shocking details to authorities. He disclosed his sexual orientation, disclosed that he was attracted to men, and admitted to a past of intimate encounters with several men while living in a temple in Bangkok. Warut shockingly admitted that he contracted the virus at the age of 17 and passed it on to some of his colleagues.

In another surprising admission, Warut admitted to sharing explicit content on Twitter, including images and videos of himself engaging in sexual activities. However, some prominent media are still on his Facebook account.

Police searched his place and found several condoms along with drug paraphernalia. An ex-serviceman said that when he moved from Bangkok to Sagaing, he brought gifts, but recovered from his drug addiction.

Police did not say whether the young man in the picture was a victim of Warut's child sexual abuse. Channel 7 reported that he was charged under Section 14(4) of the Computer Act with importing information into a computer system likely to be accessed by the public. The punishment is imprisonment of up to five years and a fine of up to 100,000 baht.
