Residents demand a 'Balance Bike' route in Phuket

Local residents have submitted a formal request for Phuket City Municipality to dedicate an area specifically to be used as a ‘balance bike’ training ground for young children.

The request was submitted by Direk Jinnarat, President of the Phuket Balance Bike Club yesterday (June 25), and received by Phuket Town Deputy Mayor Supachok Laongphet

Mr Direk Jinnarat explained that the Phuket Balance Bike Club was established to help children and youth develop balance skills, an essential precursor to riding a two-wheeled bicycle.

The club aims to enhance decision-making, route control, and physical development by strengthening arm and leg muscles, as well as to foster good family relationships.

Currently, many children and youths in Phuket are interested in balance biking, he said.

The club has been granted training space at Saphan Hin Sports Center by the Phuket Municipality. However, the current location is an open and small area, which limits the effectiveness of training sessions and is unusable during the rainy season, Mr Direk explained.

To support the development of children and youth in Phuket and to help them potentially become future athletes, the Phuket Balance Bike Club is seeking an appropriate training ground, Mr Direk noted.

In response, Mr Supachok mentioned that the Ministry of Interior has a policy to support local initiatives like this.

Phuket City Municipality will explore ways to support the Phuket Balance Bike Club's request for a new training ground, Deputy Mayor Supachok assured.
