Phuket Cancer Center: A New Era of Accessible Cancer Treatment for the Andaman Region

On August 9, 2024, Dr. Jadet Thammathataree, Secretary-General of the National Health Security Office (NHSO), along with Dr. Narin Boonjongcharoen, Chairman of the Executive Committee at Bangkok Dusit Medical Services Public Company Limited, and Dr. Piriya Athisuk, Director of Bangkok Siriroj Hospital, visited the site of the Phuket Cancer Center. This state-of-the-art facility is set to revolutionize cancer care in Phuket and the broader Andaman region.

A Milestone in Health Tourism and Treatment

The Phuket Cancer Center is strategically located to enhance access to high-quality cancer treatment for local residents and support Phuket's Medical and Wellness Destination strategy. The center, which commenced construction in July 2023, represents a significant investment of over B300 million and spans 1,030 square meters.

Innovative Design and Cutting-Edge Technology

The facility boasts specially designed consultation rooms aimed at creating a soothing environment for patients. Advanced treatment planning technology, including computerized X-ray machines and particle accelerators, will be utilized by specialized radiation oncologists. The center also features short-range radiation machines and an online meeting room for collaborative treatment planning with Bangkok Cancer Hospital, Wattanosoth.

Accessible Care for All

Patients with coverage under the National Health Security Office’s Gold Card, civil servant rights, social security rights, or members of the NHSO's Cancer Anywhere project will benefit from efficient, local treatment options. These patients will no longer need to travel long distances for care, thanks to the Phuket Cancer Center's comprehensive services.

For those without these coverage rights, the center has assured that service fees will be comparable to government hospitals. The facility will offer streamlined coordination from the outset, eliminating the need for referrals.

Opening Date and Services

The Phuket Cancer Center is set to begin operations on October 1, 2024. It promises to provide high-quality, accessible cancer care aligned with national health coverage standards, enhancing treatment availability for patients across the region.

In summary, the Phuket Cancer Center represents a major advancement in cancer care, reflecting a commitment to improving health services and supporting Phuket’s position as a leading health tourism destination.
