Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi expressed high praise for Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola ahead of their Champions League group stage clash, calling him "the best coach in the world." The two teams are set to meet at the Etihad Stadium in what promises to be a highly anticipated rematch of the 2023 Champions League final, where Manchester City narrowly defeated Inter 1-0 to complete their historic treble.

Speaking to the press, Inzaghi acknowledged the challenge his side faces but emphasized that they always approach games with a winning mentality, regardless of budget differences. "We always set out to win, even though we know there are different budgets and other factors. But I don’t like excuses," Inzaghi remarked. He also noted the pleasure of facing Guardiola again, stating, "I met him three times, and twice I had a very good time, in Istanbul a little less… I think he’s the best coach around, he’s an inspiration to me."

The match carries an air of revenge for Inter, as they aim to overcome their defeat from the previous season’s final in Istanbul. The upcoming game will mark the start of Inter’s 2024/25 Champions League campaign under a new format, and the team is motivated to improve upon last year’s result.

In addition to discussing Guardiola, Inzaghi addressed the form of Inter captain Lautaro Martinez. Despite a slow start to the season, Inzaghi backed Martinez to return to his best form soon. "He’s our captain and he will score many goals for us. He arrived almost a month after his teammates, worked hard, and had a problem, but with more matches and training, he’ll find his best form," Inzaghi explained, highlighting Martinez's importance to the team.

As the clash between the Serie A champions and the Premier League giants approaches, all eyes will be on Inzaghi and Guardiola, two of Europe’s top managers, as they face off once again on the Champions League stage.
