Manchester United is actively pursuing solutions to their left-back problem, considering moves for Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell or experienced free agent Marcos Alonso. With the new Premier League season underway, the Red Devils are struggling with a shortage of options in the left-back position.

Luke Shaw, a key player in United's defense, is set to miss the start of the season due to a recurring calf injury. Meanwhile, Tyrell Malacia remains a long-term absentee as he continues his recovery from knee surgery, which sidelined him for most of last season.

In the recent 1-0 win over Fulham, Diogo Dalot was deployed as a makeshift left-back. However, Manchester United is keen on bringing in a specialized left-back to bolster their defensive lineup. Although new signing Noussair Mazraoui can fill in at left-back if needed, his primary position is right-back, leaving a gap that United is eager to fill.

Ben Chilwell has emerged as a top target for United. The 27-year-old’s future at Chelsea is uncertain, with Blues boss Enzo Maresca hinting that Chilwell might be better off seeking more regular first-team football elsewhere. The England international, who has struggled with injuries in recent seasons, was left out of Chelsea’s squad for their recent defeat to Manchester City, raising further questions about his role in Maresca’s plans.

Chilwell, who is under contract with Chelsea until June 2027, made just 21 appearances across all competitions last season. While it remains unclear whether Chelsea would prefer to loan him out or pursue a permanent sale, Manchester United is closely monitoring the situation.

In addition to Chilwell, Manchester United is also considering a move for former Chelsea star Marcos Alonso. The 33-year-old Spaniard, now a free agent after leaving Barcelona at the end of last season, is reportedly interested in returning to the Premier League. However, Alonso’s fitness is a concern, as he made only eight appearances for Barcelona last season due to injury issues.

As Manchester United intensifies its search for a reliable left-back, Chilwell is believed to be the preferred option. With the transfer window nearing its close, United fans will be eager to see if their club can secure one of these defensive reinforcements to strengthen their squad for the challenges ahead.
