After teenagers blocked a road for racing in Central, parents were charged.

Just south of Bangkok, in Samut Prakan, police have accused 22 individuals after a gang of youngsters blocked a road to race motorbikes.

Ten parents' minor children were taken into custody by the police and taken to Samut Prakan Juvenile and Family Court to await further proceedings. In Phra Samut Chedi, the youths had closed a road to facilitate a motorbike racing.

Given that the offenders were minors, their parents or guardians have been charged. Each of the 22 people charged has been fined 10,000 baht and given a 3-month prison sentence, suspended on parole.

The fine was subsequently reduced to 5,000 baht person after the individuals admitted their responsibility. The youths in question are required to undergo a rehabilitation process with their parents, which will consist of them carrying out good deeds in the community and not repeating the offence.

Police say that, should they fail to follow the rehabilitation process, they will be held accountable. Officers hope that by charging the guardians, it will serve as a warning to other parents to ensure their children are not involved in illegal activities.

A lot of young Thai males keenly ‘hot up’ their, otherwise tame, motorcycles and add noisy exhausts for racing.
