Cristiano Ronaldo has voiced strong opinions about Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag’s negative approach, urging the club to aim for the Premier League and Champions League titles despite being in a rebuilding phase. The Portuguese star, who now plays for Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, previously had a high-profile falling out with Ten Hag, leading to his departure from Old Trafford in late 2022.

During an episode of the "Rio Ferdinand Presents" podcast, Ronaldo criticized Ten Hag’s outlook on the club's ambitions. "You cannot say that you're not going to fight for the Premier League or Champions League," said Ronaldo, emphasizing the need for a more positive and competitive mindset. He believes that, despite needing significant changes, Manchester United should still strive to win major trophies.

Ten Hag, who led United to victory in both the FA Cup and League Cup over the past two seasons, admitted in July that the team is "a long way" from being ready to win the Premier League. United hasn't secured the league title since Sir Alex Ferguson's final season in 2013. However, Ronaldo insists that even in a period of restructuring, the club should not downplay its potential to compete at the highest level.

"Manchester United needs to rebuild everything," Ronaldo said, acknowledging the club's challenges while stressing the importance of maintaining a winning mentality. Despite their struggles, including finishing eighth last season and losing two of their first three matches this term, Ronaldo remains optimistic about the club’s future under new leadership.

British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe acquired a minority stake in Manchester United earlier this year and has since implemented changes in the club's hierarchy. Ronaldo expressed hope for the future, saying, "I believe the future will be bright, but it's more than just talent—it’s the entire club that needs to work together as a unit."

Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d'Or winner, spent six seasons at United earlier in his career and returned for a second spell in 2021, scoring 27 goals in 54 appearances. However, his time at the club ended abruptly after clashes with Ten Hag, including Ronaldo’s public statement, "I don’t have respect for him because he doesn’t show respect for me."

Despite the turbulent end to his time at Old Trafford, Ronaldo made it clear that his love for the club remains. "I love that club. I'm not happy with how things turned out, but some things are beyond our control," he said, reflecting on his departure while expressing his enduring affection for Manchester United.
