Victor Osimhen Completes Galatasaray Loan Move After Unsuccessful Chelsea and Al Ahli Transfers

Galatasaray have officially announced the signing of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen on a season-long loan from Napoli, following failed transfer attempts by Chelsea and Al Ahli. The 25-year-old was one of the most sought-after players in the summer transfer window, but his £113 million release clause became a major obstacle for interested clubs.

Failed Moves to Chelsea and Al Ahli

Throughout the summer, Osimhen was linked with high-profile transfers to both Chelsea and Al Ahli. Negotiations with Al Ahli reached an advanced stage, with the Saudi club reportedly agreeing on personal terms with the player. However, the deal fell through when Napoli raised their financial demands. Chelsea also showed strong interest but failed to secure a move before the transfer deadline.

Galatasaray Secures Osimhen on Loan

In a late twist, Galatasaray swooped in to strike a deal with Napoli, securing Osimhen on loan just before the Turkish transfer window closes on September 13. The reigning Turkish Super Lig champions confirmed that they will cover Osimhen’s wages for the duration of the loan, but there is no option to buy included in the agreement. Napoli retains the option to extend Osimhen’s contract until 2027 and has lowered his release clause to €75 million (£63.2m).

Osimhen’s Exile from Napoli

Osimhen’s move comes after a turbulent period at Napoli, where he was frozen out of the first team by manager Antonio Conte. The arrival of Romelu Lukaku as Osimhen’s replacement further limited his playing opportunities, leaving the Nigerian striker in limbo until the Galatasaray loan materialized.

Galatasaray Debut and AFCON Qualification

Wearing the number 45 shirt, a number he believes brings him luck, Osimhen will soon join Galatasaray after completing international duties with Nigeria. He is expected to link up with his new teammates in time for their Turkish Super Lig fixture against Caykur Rizespor on September 14. Osimhen will first participate in Nigeria’s qualifying matches for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, facing Benin and Rwanda.

Future Prospects

The move to Galatasaray offers Osimhen a fresh start after a tumultuous period at Napoli. The Turkish giants will benefit from his attacking prowess as they defend their Super Lig title. With a reduced release clause and no buy option in place, Osimhen’s future remains uncertain beyond this season, but his time in Turkey could be crucial in reigniting his career.
