Manchester United have made a significant statement in the transfer market by securing the signatures of Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich. The Premier League giants announced the dual acquisition on Tuesday, with the combined transfer fees reportedly totaling £60 million ($77 million, €70 million).

Netherlands international De Ligt, 25, reunites with United manager Erik ten Hag, having previously worked under him at Ajax. De Ligt, who signed a five-year contract with an option for an additional year, expressed his enthusiasm for the move: "As soon as I heard that Manchester United wanted me, I felt an excitement about the opportunity of a new challenge at such a historic club."

De Ligt brings a wealth of experience to Old Trafford, having won league titles in the Netherlands, Italy, and Germany with Ajax, Juventus, and Bayern Munich, respectively. The central defender is set to bolster United's defense following the departure of Raphael Varane and the injury concerns surrounding new signing Leny Yoro.

Noussair Mazraoui, 26, also joins United on a four-year deal with an option for a fifth year. The Moroccan full-back, who has 28 international caps and was part of Morocco's squad that reached the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup, previously played under Ten Hag at Ajax, where he won three league titles.

Mazraoui's arrival coincides with the departure of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who has joined Premier League rivals West Ham United. Speaking about his move, Mazraoui said, "It's an incredible feeling to be a Manchester United player, and I cannot wait to walk out at Old Trafford wearing the red shirt."

Both De Ligt and Mazraoui are expected to be available for Manchester United's season opener against Fulham at Old Trafford on Friday. The Red Devils are determined to improve on last season's eighth-place finish and challenge for trophies in the upcoming campaign.

United's recent FA Cup victory over local rivals Manchester City showcased their potential, although they fell short in the Community Shield, losing to City on penalties. The new signings of De Ligt and Mazraoui are set to strengthen United's squad as they aim to close the gap on their Manchester rivals.
