Taxi drivers charged for vicious assault on app taxi driver

Cherng Talay Police have confirmed the arrest of two taxi drivers involved in a violent assault on an app taxi driver in Layan, which resulted in the victim sustaining a fractured skull on the morning of July 24.

Cherng Talay Police Chief Pol Col Weeraphong Rakkhito promptly responded to the assault by ordering a Deputy Superintendent to investigate the incident site on Soi Layan 1/1 Moo 6, Cherng Talay. The victim, Wirot Emleng, 39, from Trang, was attacked at around 10:30 am.

Dash Cam Evidence

The brutal assault was captured on Wirot’s car dash cam. The footage revealed two men repeatedly punching him in the face. One of the attackers held Wirot while the other kicked him in the head. The assault continued with both men kicking Wirot in the head while he lay on the ground before they eventually walked away.

Medical Response

Wirot was initially taken to Thalang Hospital, where an x-ray confirmed a skull fracture near his right eye. He was subsequently transferred to Mission Hospital Phuket for further treatment.

Arrest and Identification

Cherng Talay Police confirmed that the two attackers, identified as Phichet Thipbamrung, 34, and Suthon Ketkaew, 38, were arrested for the assault. Wirot positively identified the two men as his assailants.

The police confirmed that both Phichet Thipbamrung and Suthon Ketkaew were drivers of 'green license plate' taxis in Phuket. The specific charges pressed against them were not disclosed, but legal proceedings have been completed.
