AC Milan's Final Transfer Market Tally: Strategic Investments and Future Prospects

AC Milan approached the 2023 summer transfer window with a balanced strategy, opting for smart investments rather than splurging on a single star player. This marks a shift from last year, when they sold Sandro Tonali and used the funds to bolster the squad with multiple signings. According to Tuttomercatoweb, Milan’s net transfer spending reached approximately €50M.

The club made key acquisitions, including €18M for Strahinja Pavlovic, €15M for Emerson Royal, and €20M for Youssouf Fofana. Additionally, they secured Tammy Abraham on loan, pushing their total spending to €66M, plus potential bonuses.

On the sales front, Milan generated nearly €10M, primarily through temporary deals. Juventus paid €3.3M for Pierre Kalulu's season-long loan, and Fiorentina paid €1.5M for Yacine Adli. Other players, such as Tommaso Pobega, Marco Pellegrino, Lorenzo Colombo, Luka Romero, and Devis Vasquez, also left on loan with similar arrangements.

Daniel Maldini and Marco Nasti were released on free transfers but with significant resale clauses, ensuring Milan could benefit from their future moves. The only outright sale was Jan-Carlo Simic, who joined Anderlecht for €3M. Notably, Milan didn’t profit from Charles De Ketelaere's departure this summer, as his move to Atalanta was another loan deal, with a €22M obligation to buy next year.

Our Take on Milan’s Transfer Window
Milan effectively secured their primary targets while maintaining financial discipline. There was speculation around a potential €40M signing of Joshua Zirkzee, which could have shifted their strategy, possibly leading to more player sales. However, the Rossoneri’s current setup lays the groundwork for a compelling summer 2025, especially if several loaned players are bought outright.
