Manchester United is reportedly weighing a last-minute transfer move for Brentford's Ivan Toney as the summer transfer window nears its close. According to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, the Red Devils might hold off until the deadline day before deciding whether to approach the 28-year-old striker.

United, who kicked off their season with a 1-0 win over Fulham at Old Trafford, have been active in the transfer market. The club has already secured several key signings, including Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Noussair Mazraoui, and Matthijs de Ligt. Additionally, talks are ongoing for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

Potential Late Move for Ivan Toney

Despite bolstering their attacking options with Zirkzee, Manchester United remains linked with a potential move for Ivan Toney, who was notably absent from Brentford’s squad in their 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace. However, Plettenberg has clarified that while United has shown interest, they may not make an official approach for Toney until the final hours of the transfer window.

In a post on X.com, Plettenberg stated:

"Told again that Manchester United currently not considering signing Ivan #Toney until Deadline Day! No approach is planned yet. Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee should play regularly."

Toney's Future Uncertain

Toney, who has only one year left on his contract with Brentford, is expected to move this summer. Despite this, there has been limited action from potential suitors, including Manchester United and Saudi club Al-Ahli, who had a £35 million offer for Toney rejected last week.

It's surprising that there hasn't been a more aggressive push to sign Toney as the transfer window draws to a close. Some clubs might be waiting for a possible discounted deal as the deadline approaches.

Currently, Manchester United has options in the striker position with Zirkzee, Rasmus Hojlund, and Marcus Rashford, who can also play centrally. However, if they decide to make a move for Toney, he would bring a different dynamic to the team, offering a new dimension to their attack.
