MAN ARRESTED IN PATTAYA FOR VIOLENT ATTEMPTED RAPE AND ROBBERY OF CHINESE TOURIST

Police in Pattaya have arrested a man on suspicion of the attempted rape and robbery of a Chinese tourist.

A 41 year old Thai man, named only as ‘Tip’, was arrested following the attempted rape and robbery of a 29 year old Chinese woman on Tuesday, February 20.

According to the report, Tip had offered to drive the Chinese tourist to Pattaya but then took a diversion, driving the woman to an isolated wooded area off the Chon Buri highway.

According to the police report, he then tried to rape her, before tying her hands and feet and robbing her of her possessions. He then set fire to the area in an attempt to conceal evidence of his presence.

In addition to the attempted rape charge, Tip is accused of stealing 15,000 baht and 1,500 Yuan (over 7,500 baht) from the woman.

Pattaya police were able to track Tip down using CCTV footage from the area and arrested him at his home in Rayong province later the same day. It’s understood he has admitted to the charges of attempted rape, robbery, and arson.

Officers have also seized the motorbike used by Tip during the incident. The Yamaha Finn was found abandoned near a gas station on the Sukhumvit Bangna – Trad Road.

The police are now using fingerprint analysis and DNA testing as part of their investigation. The Pattaya authorities are also looking into the possibility that the suspect was involved in a similar crime involving another woman in June of last year.
