Thai authorities have uncovered more concerning details around a case involving the abduction and extortion of five Chinese businessmen from a hotel in Bangkok on April 25.

According to senior officers at Din Daeng police station, 2 Thai police officers are now among the 11 suspects implicated in the crime.

Surveillance footage captured the gang, consisting of 11 individuals, kidnapping the Chinese nationals using four vehicles from in front of the hotel located in Soi Pracha Songkhro 2 in Bangkok’s Din Daeng district.

The victims, who lodged an official police complaint on April 29, revealed that they were coerced into transferring 2.5 million baht in digital currency to the wallet of a Chinese national named Su, believed to be the ringleader of the operation.

Arrest warrants have been issued for 10 of the 11 suspects, with seven already apprehended by authorities, including five Thais and two Chinese individuals, including Su. However, three suspects remain at large: a 56-year-old Chinese national, a 26-year-old Thai, and a 34-year-old police sergeant major from Phaya Thai station in Bangkok.

Significantly, one of the arrested suspects is a police sergeant stationed at the police emergency communication center, while another is a former chief investigator at Khan Na Yao police station who was dismissed from duty in 2023.

Din Daeng police officials stated that investigations are ongoing to locate the remaining suspects and to trace Su’s financial transactions for any potential accomplices.
