BODY FOUND NEAR THE KARON VIEW POINT ROAD

The body of a 40 year old man has been discovered in a forest area below the well-visited Karon View Point, along the hillside road between Kata and Nai Harn.

Police have been working to determine the cause of death.

Karon Police responded to a report of the body at around 11:30pm last Sunday (May 5). The deceased was identified as Haschai Khaokhem and was found at the bottom of a hill on the sea-side of the viewpoint, behind the Sabai Corner Restaurant.

The deceased man’s head was resting on his backpack. He was wearing a head-mounted flashlight with a pellet rifle nearby.

Volunteers and forensic specialists from Vachira Phuket Hospital were on site as police started their investigation. Police determined that there weren’t any apparent injuries or indications of foul play on the man’s’s body.

According to the man’s girlfriend, he had set out to walk in the area at around 4am on Saturday with a friend, named only as ‘Mr. Chana’. But he failed to return home by Sunday evening, prompting a call to the man’s friends and police.

The same Mr. Chana was the person who eventually discovered the body and notified police.

Police estimate that Mr. Haschai passed away two days prior to the discovery of his body. His remains were transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital for further examination.
