MAN DROWNS AFTER BEING CAUGHT IN KAT NOI BEACH RIP

There’s been a drowning at Kata Noi Beach after a 41 year old tourist from Uzbekistan succumbed to the beach’s rip currents. The rips are present during certain wind and wave conditions along some of Phuket’s west coast beaches, including Kata Noi.

Sadullo Tashtemirovich Saidov was declared dead at Chalong Hospital on Monday afternoon.

According to reports from Karon Police, Mr. Saidov, part of an 11 member tourist group staying at a nearby resort, headed into the waters alone around the middle of the day despite warnings from a hotel security guard indicating the area’s danger with a red flag. The red flags along the beaches indicate a prohibition of swimming due to potentially dangerous conditions.

According to witnesses, after only 5 minutes, Mr. Saidov found himself in distress, caught in the powerful grip of a rip current dragging him away from the shore. Despite his desperate cries for help and attempts to swim back, the current overwhelmed him. He disappeared under the waves and was later found face down in the water.

Lifeguards quickly retrieved Mr. Saidov, but were unable to revive him. He was rushed to Chalong Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Phuket News also reports a separate incident on the same day when authorities responded to a call at a Karon beach hotel where 39 year old Russian national Dmitry Sitdikov was discovered dead in his room, suspected to have suffered “respiratory failure”.

Upon inspection, the room contained numerous empty bottles of alcohol and personal belongings packed in a suitcase, with no signs of disturbance or injury to Mr. Sitdikov’s body. Though initial assessments pointed to respiratory failure as the cause of death, further examination at Vachira Phuket Hospital was scheduled to confirm.

Meanwhile, a Burmese man has drowned after he ignored warning flags at Patong.

20 year old Nay Myo Zaw went missing at Kalim Beach on Sunday around lunchtime. Patong Police were informed of a body washed up on Patong Beach early on Monday morning. It was later identified as the victim.
