Liverpool FC has confirmed that legendary former captain and Scotland defender Alan Hansen is currently battling a serious illness in the hospital.

Renowned for his elegant style on the field, Hansen is celebrated as one of Liverpool's finest defenders, having enjoyed a remarkable 18-year playing career followed by a successful stint as a pundit.

In a statement released by the club, they expressed their heartfelt support for Hansen and his family during this challenging time. Hansen's remarkable contributions to Liverpool's legacy include a remarkable tally of eight league titles, three European Cups, two FA Cups, and three League Cups during his 14-year tenure with the Reds.

Affectionately known as 'Jocky' by his teammates, Hansen remains among the top ten for all-time appearances for Liverpool, having played 620 matches. He also served as the club's captain for four seasons, a testament to his leadership and influence on the team.

Liverpool FC is in constant communication with Hansen's family to offer assistance and support, while also requesting privacy for the family during this period.

Hansen played a pivotal role in Liverpool's golden era under Bob Paisley in the late 70s and 80s, earning the captain's armband during Kenny Dalglish's managerial reign. His impact transcended the pitch, as he became a prominent figure in sports broadcasting after retiring from football, notably serving as a BBC pundit for 22 years.

The 68-year-old pundit gained further recognition for his memorable analysis, including his famous remark about Sir Alex Ferguson's Class of '92, asserting "you can't win anything with kids."

Colleagues and former teammates have rallied around Hansen, with Match of the Day's Gary Lineker and fellow Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson sending their thoughts and best wishes for his recovery.

As news of Hansen's condition spreads, the football community unites in sending prayers and hopes for his speedy recovery. Former referee Keith Hackett also joined in, expressing his admiration for Hansen's contributions to the sport and wishing him well.
