In the first 5 months of this year, foreign tourist arrivals jumped 38 percent

Nearly 15 million foreign tourists visited Thailand in the first five months of this year, a 38 percent increase from the same period last year, led by visitors from China, government spokesman Chai Wacharonke said Thursday.

Mr Chai said Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin was trying to drive the tourism industry forward to boost the economy.

The push also includes improving the quality of the industry's human resources as part of the Prime Minister's "Ignite Thailand" development plan.

Ministry of Tourism and Sports Mr Chai said the Ministry of Labor and the Tourism Council of Thailand will hold a training program called "Ignite Tourism Thailand: TAT Skill Factory" on June 15 and 16 to improve the skills of factory workers.

He said the 14.76 million foreign visitors who entered Thailand in the first five months generated more than 700 billion baht in revenue for the country.

Mr Chai said 2.91 million tourists from China topped the visitation list, forecasting a total of 35 million foreign visitors for the year.

Mr Srettha visited the Thai office of Agoda, the world's largest hotel booking platform, on Thursday and held talks with its executives.

He said the platform expects 2025 to be an important year for Thailand's tourism industry, which is on its way to a full recovery from the epidemic.

In addition, Airports of Thailand (AoT); We have also discussed with Thai Airways International and VietJet Air to find ways to increase the frequency of foreign flights and offer discounted fares.
