Arne Slot, the manager of Liverpool, has openly admitted that “something is wrong” with his team following their shocking 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at Anfield. Despite a strong start to the Premier League season with three consecutive wins, the Reds were left frustrated by Callum Hudson-Odoi’s decisive strike, marking a significant setback.

Slot addressed the media ahead of Liverpool's Champions League opener against AC Milan, acknowledging the disappointment shared by both the team and fans. Reflecting on the loss to Forest, he noted that while the squad had been optimistic following their victory over Manchester United, this defeat highlights areas for improvement.

Slot remarked, "Not only were the journalists disappointed, but so were we. It's not acceptable to lose a home game to Nottingham Forest when you play for Liverpool. If you're not disappointed, then something is wrong."

Liverpool’s defense had been solid in their opening games, but the defeat exposed vulnerabilities. With just one change made in the starting lineup throughout the season—bringing Ibrahima Konate in for Jarell Quansah at half-time in the first match—Slot faced questions about whether his lack of squad rotation played a role in the recent defeat.

However, Slot was quick to reject this notion. He emphasized that the loss wasn't due to a lack of fresh players but rather a failure by many players to perform at their best. He said, "For me, it’s too simple to put the loss on rotation. Too many players didn’t reach their normal level. That was true for both the starters and substitutes."

As Liverpool prepares to face a much different opponent in AC Milan, Slot expects a challenging game with contrasting playing styles compared to Nottingham Forest. He expressed optimism, hoping for a positive response from his players in the Champions League match.

Adding to the excitement, Slot confirmed that new signing Federico Chiesa, who recently joined from Juventus, will be part of the squad for the first time.

Liverpool's journey to Milan represents an opportunity to reset and regain momentum after the Forest defeat. Slot's acknowledgment of the team's issues and his drive to improve will be key as the Reds aim to make an impact in Europe's premier competition.
