PHUKET POLICE ARREST MAN WHO SAYS HE ACCIDENTALLY SHOT HIS WIFE

A Patong fruit seller has been arrested after shooting his wife over her affair with a worker. The man claims the shooting was an accident, according to a Phuket News report.

Police were notified of the shooting at around 8.20am yesterday, June 3, and arrived at Patong Hospital where the injured woman was being treated. Her husband claims he didn’t intend to shoot her and says the bullet ricocheted and struck her.

The shooting was the result of the fruit seller, named as Niwat Kongsom, discovering that his wife, named as Kulap Naowko-aksorn, was having an affair with a Burmese man of Mon ethnicity, named only as Kai. Kai had been hired to help out in the couple’s shop on Sirirat Road.

Niwat told officers that Kai had only been working for them for 2 or 3 days, adding that the affair was consummated in the worker’s room in the shop. It’s not known how the fruit seller found out about the couple’s affair, but Niwat told officers that he had fired his handgun in anger while arguing with his wife.

He says he fired two shots at the ceiling, but one bullet ricocheted, hitting his wife in the left arm. The fruit seller says that following the shooting, Kai fled the shop while Niwat rushed his wife to hospital.

Niwat has been arrested and taken to Patong police station for questioning and to face potential charges. Officers also seized the weapon used in the shooting and are continuing their investigation into the incident.
