A 14 year old boy has died after a BMW sedan crashed into his motorbike in north Phuket. The BMW was driven by a Thai visiting the island.

According to a Phuket Express report, the incident happened on Wednesday night, June 5, near a U-turn on the northbound lane of Thep Krasattri Road. Police and rescue workers arrived at the scene to find a motorbike and BMW sedan at the side of the road, both badly damaged.

The 14 year old boy, understood to be from the northern district of Thalang, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has been withheld by the authorities on account of his age.

The dead boy’s friend, named only as Mr Eakkapong, or Eak, was with the victim at the time of the collision. According to Eak, he had been riding another motorbike nearby when his bike broke down as he was making a U-turn. The victim was trying to help him figure out what the problem was when the BMW appeared and crashed into him.

The driver of the BMW has been named only as 40 year old Mr Phontoe from Phang Nga. It’s understood he initially left his car and the scene of the accident, but then presented himself at Sakoo Police Station shortly after.

According to Nikorn Choothong, chief of Thalang Police, officers are determining if the Mr Phontoe will face charges. A breathalyser test has already determined he was not over the legal alcohol limit.
