Airports of Thailand Plc (AoT) is rolling out a fresh strategy to increase its earnings beyond aviation by leasing land near Chiang Mai airport for commercial development. Announced on June 6, 2025, this move aims to tap into the growing demand for prime real estate, offering investors a chance to capitalize on the airport’s strategic location while diversifying AoT’s income streams.
Chiang Mai airport’s general manager, Ronnakorn Chalermsanyakorn, revealed that 19 rai of land, divided into three plots along the road to Hang Dong in Muang district, are now open for investors. These plots, located just minutes from the airport, are ideal for businesses looking to establish a presence in one of Thailand’s most vibrant northern cities, making them a hotspot for development in 2025.
The plots’ proximity to Chiang Mai airport makes them highly attractive for commercial projects, as highlighted by Ronnakorn. Their prime location ensures easy access for travelers and locals alike, positioning them as a lucrative opportunity for developers aiming to cater to the region’s growing tourism and business sectors. This strategic advantage sets the stage for significant economic growth in the area.
To kickstart the initiative, AoT hosted a road show on Thursday, June 5, 2025, allowing developers to explore the plots firsthand. This event underscores AoT’s proactive approach to attracting investment, providing a platform for businesses to envision their projects on these prime lands near Chiang Mai airport, fostering excitement among potential investors.
The land leasing project in Chiang Mai is part of a larger plan by AoT to develop vacant plots near six airports across Thailand. By opening these spaces to businesses, AoT aims to create new revenue channels outside its core aviation operations, ensuring long-term financial sustainability while supporting economic growth in key regions like Chiang Mai in 2025.
