MOTORBIKE TAXI DRIVER ARRESTED OVER SEXUAL ASSAULT OF GERMAN WOMAN
Police in Phuket have arrested a motorbike taxi driver who allegedly sexually assaulted a German tourist.
The arrest comes after an unnamed 37 year old German woman filed a police report, claiming the driver “kissed her, touched her genitals, and tried to place her hand on his genitals”.
The alleged assault took place after she had hired the accused driver to take her to her hotel in the sub-district of Rassada (on Phuket’s east coast).
On Monday, February 26, Phuket City Police arrested 18 year old Pongpat Klaithonglam, originally from the nearby province of Nakhon Si Thammarat. Officers detained Pongpat at his rented room in the sub-district of Talad Yai in Phuket Town.
According to the report, Pongpat denies sexually assaulting the German tourist. However, arresting officers say CCTV footage backs up the woman’s version of events.
It’s understood the woman was in tears as she identified Pongpat and confirmed he had sexually assaulted her. She also stated that she didn’t want to see his face again.
The authorities are now gathering more evidence in order to charge Pongpat with indecency and sexual assault.
