Harry Kane, determined to lead England to victory at Euro 2024, has stated that previous tournament near-misses are no longer sufficient. The Bayern Munich striker will captain England in their Group C opener against Serbia in Gelsenkirchen on Sunday night, marking his fourth major tournament as captain.

In the past three tournaments under Gareth Southgate, Kane has experienced both highs and lows. He won the Golden Boot at the 2018 World Cup as England reached the semi-finals and played a crucial role in their journey to the Euro 2020 final, where they lost to Italy on penalties. Despite strong performances, England was eliminated by France in the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup.

Kane believes the team is now at a stage where anything less than winning Euro 2024 will be seen as a failure. "Yes, I think so," he affirmed when asked if near-misses are no longer acceptable. "We've spoken a lot about having a great tournament, but now we want to win. We feel we have enough in the squad to achieve that."

Kane, who is England’s all-time leading scorer and scored 44 goals in 45 games in his first season at Bayern, remains hungry for team silverware. He emphasized his determination to lead England to a major tournament victory, stating, "Winning a major tournament with England would be one of the pinnacles of anyone’s career. The lack of trophies makes me more determined and hungry."

Reflecting on his career, Kane expressed pride in his achievements but acknowledged the desire for trophies. "I am extremely proud of what I have achieved, but I also want trophies to show for it. I feel like I'm at the peak of my career and hope to maintain that for the next four or five years."

Confident in his abilities, Kane is ready to be a top scorer at Euro 2024. "I know what I am capable of and there is no reason why I cannot be the top scorer at this tournament," he said. "My experience has helped me understand the game better, and I am in a really comfortable place in my career."

As the tournament approaches, Kane’s leadership and determination will be crucial for England’s quest for Euro 2024 glory.
