CHINESE RUNNER HIT BY MOTORBIKE DURING LAGUNA PHUKET MARATHON
If you weren’t aware, the annual Phuket Marathon was held yesterday. But this year there was an incident between one of the runners and a motorcycle. A Chinese man was injured after being struck by a motorbike as he took part in the Laguna Phuket Marathon around the Laguna development.
The incident took place at around 5.30am yesterday, June 9, (the runners set off around 4am to avoid the day’s hot weather) with Thalang Police notified that a motorbike had collided with a marathon participant at the Na Muang Intersection.
Officers arrived at the scene to find a motorbike on its side in the road, as other marathon runners continued the race around the incident. The driver of the bike has been named only as Ms Waranya.
According to a Phuket Express report, the motorbike rider was on her way to work at Phuket International Airport when she collided with the Chinese runner. He has been named only as Mr Yang.
It’s understood Mr Yang suffered a head injury from the collision and Ms Waranya had injuries to her arm and face. Rescue workers provided both with first-aid at the scene, prior to Ms Waranya being taken to Thalang Police Station for legal proceedings.
