A Filipino bike rider has been killed in an accident on Phuket’s Thepkasattri Road on Sunday morning.

The accident occurred in the early hours of yesterday morning, May 26, and it’s understood there were no other vehicles involved. Thalang Police were notified of the accident at around 6.40am and attended the scene alongside rescue workers.

They found a Filipino man lying on the south bound side of Thepkasattri Road, opposite the Shell gas station. Nearby was a damaged Honda Click motorbike, its engine still running.

Identification documents found on the rider confirmed he was from the Philippines. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the initial police investigation, there were scuff marks on the bike and on the curb of the central reservation, as well as significant damage to a sign warning drivers to slow down.

The authorities have determined that the man was likely travelling at high speed before losing control of the bike, hitting the central reservation, and then colliding with the sign. Police have confirmed there is no indication any other vehicle was involved.

The man’s body was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital, where an initial autopsy showed he had sustained a serious head wound and a skull fracture.

There were no other major injuries found on his body, but police say a further more detailed autopsy will be carried out prior to the man’s body being released to family members. It’s understood the Philippine Embassy is liaising with the man’s relatives.
