MAN ARRESTED AFTER GARDENER STABBED TO DEATH IN PHUKET
A 55 year old man has been arrested following the fatal stabbing of a gardener in the Wichit sub-district of central Phuket.
The incident took place on Tuesday, March 19, at a labour camp in Soi Thep Anusorn. The victim has been named as 49 year old Boonkamplan Boonchoo from the northeastern province of Sisaket.
He had been drinking with the suspect, named as Issara Khunpoechai, on the day of the stabbing. Following the incident, the Phuket Provincial Court issued an arrest warrant for Issara, who had fled the scene. He was arrested yesterday, March 21, on Rat Uthit Song Roi Road in Patong.
According to Issara, both men got into an argument while drinking, which then turned physical. Issara told police he struck Boonkamplan twice with a whiskey bottle, causing him to fall to the ground. While he was on the ground, Issara stabbed him in the neck with the broken bottle. The victim subsequently succumbed to his wounds.
In Thailand, the penalty for murder is a prison sentence of up to 20 years or capital punishment via lethal injection. According to the Phuket Express report, the exact sentence depends on the circumstances and factors such as premeditation or even the victim’s status.
