A car that crashed after losing control on a bend in the south of Phuket, set off a cascade of events that brought down power lines and resulted in a second collision.
Early yesterday morning, April 16, a car lost control on a bend in Rawai and collided with a power pole. This caused the power pole to fall over, bringing down electrical cables.
Two people in the car sustained minor injuries and Chalong Police were notified of the accident at around 4.15am.
Meanwhile, an oil truck travelling in the opposite direction found its route blocked by the downed cables and came to a halt. A minivan travelling behind the truck then crashed into the back of it, causing an oil spill onto the road. Three people in the minivan were injured and taken to a local hospital.
According to the report, the local electricity authority was alerted to the downed cables in order to remove the hazard and repair the damaged pole. Efforts were also made to clean up the oil spill on the road to prevent more accidents.
CCTV footage from the area shows a car losing control on a bend in the road and colliding with a power pole. This then set off the chain of events that followed. Police are reviewing the footage to determine if any of the drivers involved will be charged.
