FREQUENT FLYER: THAI PM RETURNS TO PHUKET TOMORROW

The Thai PM will return to Phuket Friday, April 19, his fourth visit to the island since his election. Srettha Thavisin will be on the island to inspect a number of projects aimed at alleviating traffic congestion, according to a Phuket News report.

The PM will first attend a meeting at Phuket Airport, where he will be updated on various projects aimed at easing the island’s traffic woes. He will then inspect the area where a planned elevated road will connect to Route 4027 through Paklok, joining Thepkrasattri Road at the northern end, to ease travel to the airport.

A report issued by the Phuket office of the Public Relations Department, PR Phuket, says the PM will then head to Sarasin Bridge for a presentation on the new bridge project. He will also be briefed on construction planned around Heroines Monument according to PR Phuket.

“The government is ready to support and request that operations be expedited to be able to accommodate tourists quickly and effectively, by considering the use of the budget and the construction period to be appropriate, and being the most effective and beneficial to the people as a whole is extremely important in the implementation of the various construction projects. The impact on the environment and the suffering of the people must be considered as well.”

In addition to his family holiday on the island in December, the PM also visited Phuket on December 1 to attend a marine safety demonstration in Patong.

Phuket was also the destination for his first official visit outside Bangkok following his election. The August 25 visit happened less than 48 hours after he took office, demonstrating the importance off Phuket as a quick supply of tourism dollars for the national budget.

During that visit he heard a long list of grievances related to development on the island and returned again in September to check on progress.
