Erling Haaland, Manchester City’s unstoppable goal machine, has added another remarkable milestone to his already impressive career by breaking a 90-year-old goalscoring record for Norway. In Norway’s 3-0 victory over Slovenia in the UEFA Nations League, Haaland netted twice, cementing his position as the top male scorer in Norway’s history with 34 international goals.

Haaland, who previously played for Borussia Dortmund and Red Bull Salzburg, entered the October international break with 32 goals from just 35 matches for his country, placing him second on the all-time men’s chart behind Jorgen Juve. Juve had set the record with 33 goals in 45 games between 1928 and 1937, but Haaland shattered that benchmark in just 36 appearances, scoring his record-equalling goal in the seventh minute against Slovenia.

Not content with just matching the record, the 24-year-old made history by scoring his second goal in the 62nd minute, pushing Norway further ahead. His impressive goal tally continues to grow, and with 34 goals in 36 matches, Haaland now tops Norway’s men’s goalscoring chart. However, he still has a way to go to break the overall Norwegian record, which is held by female striker Isabell Herlovsen, who has 67 goals.

Nine female players have scored more goals for Norway than Haaland, but with his current scoring rate of 0.94 goals per game, he is on track to surpass the women’s top scorers. Haaland needs 32 more goals to become Norway’s outright top scorer across both men’s and women’s football.

In addition to his international success, Haaland has set records in club football. The 24-year-old broke the single-season Premier League goalscoring record with 36 goals in his debut campaign for Manchester City. His total of 52 goals in all competitions last season also set a new high for a Premier League player. Haaland reached 100 goals in Europe’s top five leagues in just 103 matches, breaking Ronaldo Nazario’s previous record by 30 games. He has also scored 50 Premier League goals in just 48 appearances—another league record.

As Norway sits at the top of their Nations League group with seven points from three games, Haaland’s future in international football looks even brighter. At just 24 years old, the striker could have another 15 seasons of goalscoring ahead of him. With records continually falling, Haaland has already cemented his place in football history, both for his country and at the club level.

Off the pitch, Haaland hinted on social media that he’s expecting a child with his partner Isabel Haugseng Johansen, making the evening even more memorable for the prolific striker. Norway will face Austria in their next Nations League match, where Haaland will undoubtedly be looking to add to his growing goal tally.
