Trent Alexander-Arnold Makes Real Madrid Debut in Club World Cup Clash

Trent Alexander-Arnold made his long-awaited Real Madrid debut in a 1-1 draw against Al-Hilal at the FIFA Club World Cup, insisting he has “no regrets” about leaving Liverpool for the Spanish giants.

The 26-year-old right-back, who joined Madrid this summer, played 65 minutes in sweltering Miami conditions before being substituted for Lucas Vázquez. Despite the result, Alexander-Arnold told Mail Sport:

“I had no expectations coming into this. It’s a big change, but I’m loving every minute. In my mind and my heart, I know I made the right decision.”

Challenging Conditions & Proud Debut

The match kicked off in 30°C heat and high humidity, making it a tough physical test. Alexander-Arnold admitted:

“I found it very challenging—it’s very different from England. But it was a proud moment. Making my Madrid debut is something most players dream of.”

Despite the pride in his first appearance, the England international acknowledged the winning mentality expected at Real Madrid:

“There’s disappointment with the result. As a Madrid player, you expect to win every game. But with a new coach, new players, and new ideas, we’ll build from this.”

Match Recap: Al-Hilal Hold Madrid in Miami

  • Real Madrid took the lead through Gonzalo García, but Rúben Neves equalized from the penalty spot before half-time.

  • Federico Valverde missed a late penalty, saved by Al-Hilal’s Bono, denying Madrid a win.

  • Xabi Alonso’s side improved in the second half but couldn’t secure victory.

Xabi Alonso’s Half-Time Team Talk

When asked about Alonso’s instructions at half-time, Alexander-Arnold revealed:

“He told us to control the game more and dominate possession, especially in the heat. If you don’t keep the ball, you’re chasing shadows—and the conditions make it even harder.”

What’s Next for Real Madrid?

Madrid’s next Club World Cup fixture is against Mexican side Pachuca in Charlotte on Sunday. With more time to adapt to Alonso’s system, Alexander-Arnold will hope to make a stronger impact as the tournament progresses.
