Torrential rain in Songkhla has led to widespread flooding, severely impacting daily life and travel in the region. With water levels rising up to 70 centimeters in certain areas, local authorities have been forced to close key roads, including the essential Kanjanavanich Road, connecting Hat Yai and Mueang Songkhla districts.

Songkhla’s Flooding Crisis: Key Areas Impacted

Major Flooded Zones

Several critical areas have been severely affected by the relentless downpour:

  • Ko Yo Intersection
  • Baan Kuan Hin
  • Baan Bang Dan

Floodwaters have made it impossible for small vehicles to pass, posing significant challenges for commuters and local residents.

Kanjanavanich Road Closure

Kanjanavanich Road, a vital transportation route, has been closed due to water levels between 60 and 70 centimeters. This precautionary measure ensures public safety, but it has caused major disruptions for those traveling between Hat Yai and Mueang Songkhla.

Emergency Measures and Alternative Routes

Efforts to Drain Floodwaters

The Songkhla governor, Chotinrin Kerdsom, has initiated emergency measures to expedite water drainage. Relevant agencies are working tirelessly to alleviate the flooding and restore normalcy.

Alternative Travel Routes

Residents and commuters are advised to avoid flooded areas and take Lopburi Ramesuan Road, commonly referred to as the “new route,” as a safer alternative.

Weather Warnings and Future Precautions

Continued Heavy Rain and Temperature Drops

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued warnings about ongoing heavy to very heavy rainfall. Alongside the downpour, temperatures in the region are expected to drop by up to 6°C, potentially exacerbating the situation.

Advice for Residents

The TMD encourages residents to:

  • Stay updated via their 24-hour hotline or website.
  • Avoid flooded areas unless absolutely necessary.
  • Take precautions to safeguard their homes and belongings from rising water levels.

Collaborative Efforts to Mitigate Impact

The Songkhla governor has emphasized the importance of unified efforts among local agencies. Teams are actively coordinating to provide:

  • Relief for affected residents
  • Efficient water drainage
  • Support for essential services

Staying Informed and Safe

The flooding in Songkhla highlights the pressing challenges posed by extreme weather. Residents are urged to stay vigilant, adhere to official recommendations, and use alternative routes for travel. With ongoing efforts from local authorities and agencies, Songkhla aims to recover swiftly from this crisis.
