Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra reaffirmed her government’s unwavering commitment to sustainable development after Thailand secured the title of ASEAN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) leader for the sixth consecutive year. Speaking at the Prime Minister’s Address Luncheon 2025, hosted by the Joint Foreign Chambers of Commerce in Thailand (JFCCT) in Bangkok, she emphasized that government policies will continue without slowdown to maintain long-term economic and environmental progress.

During her speech titled “Sustainable Thailand – Advancing with Reforms”, Ms. Paetongtarn highlighted the government’s vision for flexible and sustainable economic growth. She stressed the importance of cooperation between the public and private sectors, ensuring Thailand remains competitive in the evolving global economy.

Commitment to Achieving All 17 SDG Goals by 2030

The Thai government has pledged to complete all 17 SDG goals by 2030, reinforcing its commitment to international cooperation for sustainability. Between 2019 and 2024, Thailand made significant strides in SDG completion, positioning the country as a global leader in sustainable development efforts.

Ranking Among Global SDG Leaders and ASEAN Success

In 2024, Thailand ranked 45th on the World SDGs Leaders list and 3rd in Asia, reflecting its strong commitment to environmental and economic sustainability. This recognition has placed Thailand at the forefront of ASEAN’s sustainable development initiatives.

Path Toward OECD Membership Strengthens Global Cooperation

Thailand’s growing international credibility led to an invitation to join the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in 2023. This step aligns with the government’s efforts in promoting responsible business operations, fostering scientific innovation, and supporting carbon-neutral initiatives to meet global sustainability standards.

Thailand’s Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Model for a Sustainable Future

Transforming the Economy Through Sustainable Practices

The Prime Minister outlined Thailand’s vision for a sustainable and resilient economy, emphasizing the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) model. This strategy prioritizes efficient resource utilization, aiming to enhance long-term sustainability while achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and net-zero emissions by 2065.

Renewable Energy Plans for a Greener Future

Looking ahead, the government has already begun implementing projects to increase renewable energy production. By 2040, Thailand aims to generate at least 50% of its energy from sustainable sources, ensuring environmental preservation and a brighter future for all citizens.

Ms. Paetongtarn reaffirmed that Thailand’s progress in sustainability and economic resilience will continue, maintaining the country’s global leadership in sustainable development.
