Foreign Ministry Issues Warning

On June 20, 2025, Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued an urgent advisory for Thai nationals in Iran and Israel to leave immediately due to escalating violence between the two nations. Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa emphasized the need for swift action, as the conflict, marked by missile exchanges since June 13, shows no signs of de-escalation, posing severe risks to civilian safety in both countries.

Embassy Support Mobilized

Safe Exit Plans Activated

Thai embassies in Tehran and Tel Aviv are on high alert, facilitating rapid departures for citizens. Currently, 35 Thais in Iran are sheltered in a temporary refuge in Amol, with five planning to leave, while three in Israel have requested evacuation. Senior officials have been deployed to both embassies to streamline assistance, ensuring safe passage while travel routes remain open, a critical window amid worsening conditions.

Labour Ministry Steps In

Worker Safety Prioritized

The Ministry of Labour has set up coordination centers in Iran and Israel to protect Thai workers, primarily employed in Israel’s agricultural sector. Permanent Secretary Boonsong Thapchaiyuth reported no Thai casualties as of June 20, 2025, but stressed proactive measures. The centers monitor developments closely, offering real-time support to approximately 40,000 Thais in Israel and 300 in Iran, many under labor programs.

Smart TOEA App Recommended

Technology Aids Evacuation

Thai workers are urged to download the “Smart TOEA” app, available on Android and iOS, to enable location tracking for rescue operations. This tool allows authorities to locate and assist citizens quickly during emergencies, such as missile strikes or sudden escalations. Boonsong highlighted its importance in ensuring efficient evacuations, especially in high-risk zones like Tehran and northern Israel.

Regional Conflict Intensifies

Civilian Risks Escalate

The Iran-Israel conflict, fueled by Israel’s strikes on Iran’s nuclear and military sites and Iran’s retaliatory missile barrages, has killed over 224 in Iran and 24 in Israel, mostly civilians, per June 16, 2025, reports. Airspace closures and internet restrictions in Iran complicate evacuations, prompting Thailand to prepare military aircraft for potential repatriation. The Thai government’s proactive stance reflects global concerns about a broader regional war.

Global Evacuation Efforts

Thailand Joins International Response

Thailand’s call aligns with actions by nations like China, India, and Italy, which are evacuating citizens via Iran’s land borders with Azerbaijan and Turkey. The Thai embassy in Tehran, temporarily relocated to Kordan for safety, advises avoiding military zones and crowds. With 585 deaths reported in Iran’s urban areas, including Tehran, Thailand’s urgency underscores the need to protect its citizens from escalating civilian casualties.

Staying Safe Amid Crisis

Embassy Hotlines Available

Thai nationals are encouraged to contact embassies immediately, with Iran’s hotline at +98 912 1598699 and Israel’s at +972 54-636-8150. The government’s coordinated efforts, including potential airlifts, aim to bring citizens home safely. As the conflict disrupts Middle Eastern stability, Thailand’s decisive measures highlight its commitment to safeguarding its people amid a volatile international crisis.
