As monsoon conditions intensify, Thailand’s Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall across 11 provinces. The adverse weather may result in flash floods and forest run-offs, urging residents to exercise caution in the coming days.

Severe Weather Alerts

Heavy Rainfall and Flash Flood Warnings

TMD forecasts suggest severe weather will impact several provinces due to a strengthening northeastern monsoon and a low-pressure system moving through the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea. Thunderstorms, strong winds, and high waves are also expected, particularly along coastal areas.

Bangkok and Surrounding Areas

Coastal and Maritime Warnings

Gulf of Thailand

  • Upper Gulf: Waves up to 3 metres during thunderstorms.
  • Lower Gulf: Waves between 2–3 metres, intensifying in thunderstorms.

Andaman Sea

  • Coastal areas may experience dangerous conditions with high waves exceeding 2 metres in thunderstorms.

Tips for Staying Safe During Monsoons

  1. Avoid Flood-Prone Areas: Stay updated on local weather alerts and avoid traveling in regions at high risk of flooding or landslides.
  2. Prepare Emergency Supplies: Keep essentials like food, water, flashlights, and batteries readily available.
  3. Monitor Sea Conditions: Fishermen and coastal residents should heed warnings about strong winds and high waves.
  4. Drive Cautiously: Roads may become slippery or inundated. Ensure vehicles are in good condition before travel.

With heavy rains and turbulent weather expected, Thailand prepares for potential disruptions across 11 provinces. The combination of strong monsoons, low-pressure systems, and rising sea conditions calls for heightened vigilance. Residents and travelers are urged to remain cautious and adhere to safety measures.
