Thai and Indian officials have agreed to increase the frequency of flights between both countries, according to a press release from the Thai government.

The director of Thailand’s Civil Aviation Authority, Suthipong Kongpool, along with various Thai officials and airline representatives, have held talks with Asangba Chuba Ao from India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation, Indian government officials, the Indian Embassy, and various Indian airlines.

The outcome of those talks is that the increase in flight frequency between both countries will happen in 2 stages, increasing by 7,000 seats at a time. In addition, Indian carriers will now fly to 4 new destinations in Thailand: Chiang Rai, Hat Yai, Surat Thani, and Udon Thani.

The increased flight frequency is expected to boost tourism in both countries, including in secondary cities. India is already a key market for Thailand, with the kingdom welcoming 1.62 million Indian visitors last year, who generated over 63 million baht in revenue.

According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand, as of February 19 this year, India is the fifth largest overseas market, with 262,986 travellers having visited Thailand.
