Condemning Misleading Allegations
Refuting Cambodian Accusations
On July 30, 2025, Wan Muhamad Noor Matha, president of the Thai National Assembly and House speaker, sharply criticized Cambodia’s House speaker for making baseless claims at an Inter-Parliamentary Union meeting in Geneva. The Cambodian official accused Thai forces of breaching a recent ceasefire and targeting civilians, allegations Mr. Wan dismissed as entirely false and contrary to documented evidence, escalating diplomatic tensions.
Upholding Thailand’s Commitment
Adhering to Ceasefire Agreement
Mr. Wan emphasized Thailand’s strict adherence to the ceasefire brokered on July 28, highlighting that Cambodia has continued firing in violation of the accord. He expressed disappointment over the spread of misinformation, which risks worsening bilateral relations. Thailand has formally raised these concerns with Malaysia, the current Asean chair, as well as the United States and China, urging accountability and transparency.
Call for International Oversight
Proposing Observer Mission
To ensure the ceasefire’s effectiveness, Mr. Wan called on the Asean chair to establish an international observer mission to verify the facts and monitor compliance. He stressed Thailand’s commitment to the UN Charter and humanitarian principles, particularly the protection of civilians. The Thai National Assembly firmly rejects accusations of civilian attacks or chemical weapons use, labeling them as false reflections of Cambodia’s actions.
Gratitude for Asean Support
Strengthening Regional Peace Efforts
Expressing gratitude to the Asean chair and allied nations for supporting the ceasefire, Mr. Wan reaffirmed Thailand’s dedication to peace and the rule of law. As both nations prepare for bilateral talks on August 4, hosted by Cambodia, Thailand awaits clear signs of good faith from Phnom Penh. The parliament leader’s statement underscores the need for truth and cooperation to de-escalate the ongoing border conflict.
