Phuket Hosts Public Forum on Proposed Seaplane Project
Officials and private stakeholders convened in Phuket to discuss an ambitious seaplane initiative by Thai Seaplane Co Ltd, designed to enhance luxury tourism and improve regional travel links. The public forum, held on October 9 at the multipurpose pavilion in Baan Ao Makham, was chaired by Phuket Vice Governor Samawit Suphanphai. Attendees included government representatives, environmental experts, company executives, and local residents who shared insights and concerns about the project’s impact.
A Vision to Strengthen Phuket’s Tourism and Connectivity
Vice Governor Samawit Suphanphai emphasized that the proposed seaplane operations align with Phuket’s vision to become a global destination for wellness and high-end travel. He noted that the island’s natural beauty, premium hospitality, and strategic location make it ideal for this new mode of transport.
“Phuket possesses significant potential thanks to its natural resources, premium accommodations, and top-tier services. This initiative will promote sustainable tourism and reinforce Phuket’s standing as a world-class maritime and wellness hub,” he stated.
Seaplane Operations Set to Connect Iconic Andaman Destinations
The project outlines a plan to establish a temporary water runway in Phuket Bay, located on the island’s east coast. The service will cater to upscale travelers seeking direct and scenic routes to world-famous locations such as Krabi, Phang Nga, the Phi Phi Islands, the Similan Islands, and Koh Lipe.
Each flight will take under 90 minutes, providing a fast and luxurious alternative to traditional travel routes.
Investment and Development Plans by Thai Seaplane Co Ltd
According to CEO Kasinpoj Rodko, Thai Seaplane Co Ltd was founded in October 2023 with a registered capital of 25 million baht and plans to invest over 100 million baht within three years. The company aims to deliver safe, premium air travel experiences across the Andaman region.
Thai Seaplane has already achieved a milestone with Thailand’s first licensed seaplane pilot, trained in Germany, while its crew underwent specialized training with Trans Maldivian Airways, the world’s largest seaplane operator.
Environmental Commitment and Sustainable Development
To ensure the project meets environmental and safety standards, Thai Seaplane is collaborating with the Faculty of Environment at Kasetsart University to conduct an Initial Environmental Examination (IEE)—a crucial step for operational approval.
The forum emphasized transparency and community engagement, allowing residents to express their views on the environmental and social aspects of the project.
“We welcome all opinions. This collaboration ensures the project aligns with sustainability goals and helps shape Phuket’s future as a top-tier tourism hub,” said CEO Kasinpoj Rodko.
A Step Toward a Sustainable Tourism Future
The Phuket seaplane project symbolizes Thailand’s broader goal to combine innovation, connectivity, and environmental responsibility. By integrating air mobility with sustainable tourism, Phuket aims to redefine luxury travel while preserving its pristine coastal environment.
