Songkran Traffic Crackdown: Over 3,200 Offenders Found Guilty

Songkran Traffic Violations Surge During Holiday’s First Four Days

During the initial four days of the Songkran festival, authorities reported that more than 3,200 individuals were found guilty of traffic violations, with the majority of cases involving drunk driving. Courts across Bangkok and provincial areas placed 3,297 offenders on probation as part of a nationwide effort to curb dangerous driving behaviors during the so-called “seven dangerous days” of Songkran.

Probation and Electronic Monitoring for Songkran Traffic Offenders

Songkran Road Safety Measures Include Probation and EM Bracelets

All convicted individuals from April 11 to 14 have been placed under probationary supervision. As part of stricter enforcement, 25 offenders were ordered to wear electronic monitoring (EM) bracelets, ensuring compliance with probation terms and deterring repeat offenses during the high-risk holiday period.

Decrease in Drink-Driving Cases During Songkran 2025

Songkran Sees Fewer Drink-Driving Incidents Compared to Last Year

Officials noted a positive trend, with drink-driving cases dropping by 432 compared to the same period last year. Despite this improvement, drink-driving remains the leading cause of traffic violations, highlighting the ongoing need for public education and law enforcement during Songkran festivities.

Songkran Holiday Traffic Violations Monitored Daily by Authorities

On April 14 alone, 1,718 individuals were placed on probation for traffic offenses, with 1,674 cases directly related to drink-driving. Additionally, 15 offenders received EM bracelets that day. Provincial Department of Probation offices have deployed staff to support traffic police, focusing on identifying speeding motorists and educating offenders about the dangers of reckless driving.

Songkran Road Safety Campaigns Target Speeding and Reckless Driving

Songkran Safety Initiatives Aim to Reduce Speeding and Accidents

Authorities are intensifying efforts to monitor and support traffic police, especially in identifying speeding motorists and motorcyclists. Offenders placed on probation are also required to participate in educational programs about the risks of speeding and reckless driving, reinforcing the government’s commitment to reducing road accidents during Songkran.

Summary: Songkran Traffic Enforcement Yields Results

Songkran Holiday Sees Strong Law Enforcement and Public Safety Efforts

The first four days of Songkran 2025 have seen robust law enforcement, with over 3,200 individuals found guilty of traffic violations and placed under probation. The decrease in drink-driving cases compared to last year signals progress, but authorities continue to emphasize the importance of safe driving and strict adherence to traffic laws during the holiday period.
