Laguna Phuket Triathlon 2026: Date, Course and Visitor Tips

The Laguna Phuket Triathlon 2026, the 32nd edition of the race, takes place on Sunday 15 November at Laguna Phuket in Bang Tao, Cherng Talay, with the first start at 6:30am. Spectators do not need a ticket, the finish area at Laguna Grove is free to visit, and the race weekend runs from 12 to 16 November. Online entry closes at 23:59 on Sunday 8 November, so anyone still hoping to race has only a few days left.

Laguna Phuket, the resort group that organises the event, calls it one of Southeast Asia's longest-running triathlons, and The Phuket News reports that organisers expect more than 1,000 athletes and about 3,000 spectators. This guide covers the race formats, the weekend schedule, what it means for traffic on the west coast and how visitors can make the most of it.

When is the Laguna Phuket Triathlon 2026?

The main races are on Sunday 15 November 2026. According to the official race website, the weekend opens on Saturday 14 November with the third Laguna Phuket Open Water Swim by TriHub and a 6 km Charity Fun Run that raises money for breast and cervical cancer screening through the Kanchanabaramee Foundation. What are the race distances?

The signature race is a 1.8 km swim, a 50 km bike ride and a 12 km run, a distance that sits between an Olympic triathlon and a half-Ironman. The swim uses both the Andaman Sea in front of SAii Laguna Phuket and the resort's freshwater lagoons, the bike course climbs the hills towards Nai Thon, and the run loops through the Laguna Phuket grounds. Other formats on the same day are:

  • Pro race: same course, with a total prize purse of 20,000 US dollars, according to Laguna Phuket.
  • Team relay: three people split the swim, bike and run and share one timing chip.
  • Sprint triathlon: listed at 0.5 km swim, 20 km bike and 6 km run, a good first race for newcomers.
  • Duathlon: new this year, a 4 km run, 50 km bike and 12 km run for those who prefer not to swim.

Is it too late to enter?

Not yet. The official site says online registration closes on Sunday 8 November at 23:59 Thai time. Late-period fees apply in November: the duathlon page lists 5,200 baht for Thailand residents or 195 US dollars for overseas athletes, and RestRobin reported a late individual triathlon fee of 6,400 baht on 3 November. An 8.7 percent handling fee is added on top, entries are non-refundable and non-transferable, and the fee includes insurance plus tickets to the pasta party and awards night.

Where can spectators watch the Laguna Phuket Triathlon?

The best place is the start and finish area at Laguna Grove and the beach in front of SAii Laguna Phuket. Arrive before 6:30am to see the swim start, then stay for the finish, which runs until about 12:30pm. The run course loops through the resort, so supporters can see athletes several times without moving far. Bang Tao has plenty of breakfast spots and, later in the day, some of the island's best-known venues; see our guide to the best beach clubs in Phuket and our look at Bang Tao Beach.

Will roads be closed on race day?

Expect traffic control around Cherng Talay on Sunday morning. The Phuket News reported that police, the Thalang District Office, the navy, marine police and the Cherng Talay local administration are coordinating safety and traffic management along the whole cycling route, and that speed bumps are being removed and restored for the race. The organiser publishes a traffic control notice on the race website before the event. Practical tips for visitors:

  • Avoid driving through Cherng Talay and towards Nai Thon between about 6am and 1pm on Sunday unless you must.
  • If you have an early flight, leave extra time for the trip north to the airport and check the race traffic notice first.
  • Ride-hailing apps work in the area, but drivers may need to take detours; our Grab vs Bolt in Phuket guide explains fares and pickup tips.
  • Athletes staying at Laguna Phuket hotels can use the organiser's free shuttle buses and boats to reach the course.

What is the weather like for the race?

Mid-November is the start of Phuket's high season, but late-year showers are still possible and mornings are already warm and humid. Race starts at 6:30am are designed to beat the heat. Our report on Phuket weather in November covers sea conditions and rain patterns, and travellers on very late or early flights should also check the overnight Phuket airport runway closure dates for November.

Where to stay for the Laguna Phuket Triathlon

Laguna Phuket says special race-week rates are available at Angsana Laguna Phuket, Banyan Tree Phuket, Cassia Phuket, Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket, HOMM Suites Laguna and SAii Laguna Phuket using the promotional code LPT2026 on the event website. Staying inside the complex removes the need to drive on race morning, when athlete check-in opens at 5am. Visitors who want to combine the race with sightseeing can find ideas in our list of things to do in Phuket.
