Newcastle United have seen a £45 million bid for Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga rejected, as Eddie Howe looks to strengthen his attack ahead of the new season. The Sweden international, who registered six goals and 11 assists last term, is a long-term target for the Magpies, having also been the subject of a failed £50m deadline-day bid in August 2024.

Anthony Elanga Open to Newcastle Move? Past Comments on Alexander Isak Partnership

Elanga has previously spoken about Newcastle’s interest and his on-field chemistry with Alexander Isak, his international teammate. Speaking to Fotbollskanalen in September 2024, the 22-year-old hinted at a potential future move while remaining focused on Nottingham Forest:

“Isak talked to me about it (Newcastle’s bid), but I said the same to him as I say to you. I’m focusing on Nottingham and hope to have a good season, then we’ll see what happens.”

“We have a good relationship and good chemistry when we play together, but I have a contract with Nottingham.”

Despite their strong Sweden national team connection, Elanga and Isak have yet to combine for a goal or assist in 12 appearances together. However, their existing understanding could make Elanga an ideal Premier League signing for Newcastle.

Nottingham Forest’s Firm Stance – No Intention to Sell

According to Graeme Bailey (TBR Football)Forest have no plans to sell Elanga this summer, despite Newcastle’s renewed interest. Club sources insist:

  • No discussions have taken place with Newcastle.

  • There is no set price tag for Elanga.

  • Nuno Espírito Santo’s new contract signals ambition to retain key players.

With Arsenal also monitoring Elanga and Liverpool interested in Isak, the transfer battle could intensify. But for now, Forest are standing firm.

What’s Next for Newcastle’s Transfer Plans?

With their £45m bid rejected, Newcastle must decide whether to increase their offer or shift focus to alternative wing targets. Elanga’s versatility, pace, and creativity make him a perfect fit for Howe’s system, but Forest’s reluctance could force the Magpies to explore other options.

Will Newcastle return with an improved bid? Or will Arsenal or another club swoop in? Stay tuned for the latest transfer updates.
