A suspect has been charged following an alleged altercation involving Manchester City’s Jack Grealish after Sunday’s Manchester derby at Old Trafford.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred as Grealish was leaving the pitch toward the tunnel, with claims that a fan struck him in the face. Greater Manchester Police confirmed the arrest and charges, naming the accused as Alfie Holt from Droylsden. Holt is set to appear in court in July on assault charges related to the event.
Neither Manchester City nor Manchester United issued official statements, citing the ongoing investigation, though sources confirm United’s cooperation with authorities.
Grealish entered the match as a substitute in the 74th minute of the tense 0-0 draw, which saw City miss an opportunity to climb into the Premier League’s top four.
The derby was further marred by offensive chants directed at City midfielder Phil Foden, with references to his family drawing sharp criticism from manager Pep Guardiola.
Guardiola condemned the behavior, calling it “classless” and emphasizing that such actions reflect poorly on individuals rather than the club itself.
“Targeting a player’s family shows a complete lack of respect,” Guardiola stated. “It’s disgraceful, and those responsible should feel ashamed. Unfortunately, this isn’t unique to football in England—it’s a growing problem everywhere.”
