Kevin De Bruyne has dropped a bombshell about his future, admitting he could remain in the Premier League after confirming his departure from Manchester City this summer.
The Belgian playmaker, whose contract expires at the end of the season, revealed last week that he will leave the Etihad after a legendary 10-year spell. However, in a surprising twist, he has now hinted that a move within England remains a possibility.
De Bruyne showcased his enduring class in City’s thrilling 5-2 comeback win over Crystal Palace on Saturday, scoring a stunning free-kick and providing an assist for Mateo Kovacic. After the match, the 33-year-old opened up about his next steps, telling Viaplay:
“I’m open to listening to any interesting project. Football is my passion—if the right opportunity comes along and my family is happy, we’ll make a decision.”
When pressed on whether he’d consider staying in the Premier League, he remained non-committal: “I don’t know yet. It might not happen. The decision to leave City is still fresh, and these things take time. The football world doesn’t move that fast—I haven’t even had the chance to discuss it properly with my family.”
Saudi Interest & MLS Links
Last summer, De Bruyne was heavily linked with a lucrative move to the Saudi Pro League but chose to extend his stay at City. Now, fresh speculation suggests David Beckham’s Inter Miami could be a potential destination, though the MLS side faces complications.
With Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba already occupying their three designated player slots, Inter Miami would need to restructure their squad to accommodate De Bruyne. Argentine winger Ángel Di María has also emerged as an alternative target, meaning the club may have to choose between the two stars.
A Champions League Send-Off?
Despite his impending exit, De Bruyne remains focused on securing Champions League qualification for City. “I want to leave this club in the Champions League—they deserve it,” he said. “We’ve been there every year during my time here, and I hope we can achieve that again.”
Reflecting on the Palace victory, he added: “We started well but found ourselves 2-0 down out of nowhere. The response was fantastic—we kept playing our game, stayed composed, and in the end, we earned the win.”
As the summer transfer window approaches, De Bruyne’s next move will be one of the most talked-about sagas in football. Will he stay in England, head to MLS, or embark on a new adventure elsewhere? For now, the midfield maestro is keeping his options open.
