Introduction to the Postponement

Understanding the Reason Behind the Change

This month’s full moon party on Koh Phangan has been rescheduled from Wednesday night to Thursday, February 13, 2025. The decision was made to avoid conflicting with Makha Bucha Day, a significant Buddhist holy day celebrated across Thailand. Business owners at Rin Beach in tambon Ban Tai agreed on this change, ensuring respect for the religious observance.

Impact of Buddhist Holidays

Alcohol Restrictions and Legal Consequences

Makha Bucha Day is one of several important Buddhist holidays that fall on full moon days. During these times, alcohol sales are prohibited nationwide. In Surat Thani, district chief Suriya Bunphan announced that alcohol sales would be banned from midnight Tuesday until midnight Wednesday. Those violating this rule could face up to six months in prison or a fine of 10,000 baht.

Future Schedule Adjustments

Anticipated Changes for Other Holy Days

The full moon party schedule will also be adjusted for other significant Buddhist holidays throughout the year. For instance, the May 11 party will be postponed until May 12 due to Visakha Bucha Day. Similarly, July’s party will shift from July 10 (Asalha Puja) and July 11 (start of Buddhist Lent) to July 12. In October, it moves from October 7 (Ork Phansa) to October 8.

Preparations

Final Thoughts and Preparations for Attendees

Attendees should prepare for these changes by checking updated schedules before planning their trips. The postponements reflect both legal restrictions and cultural respect during these sacred days. As always, Koh Phangan promises an unforgettable experience with its vibrant parties under Thailand’s stunning night sky.
