Thailand Showcases Tourism Charm at Bhutan Festival

Promoting Cross-Border Travel Through Cultural Exchange

Thailand recently hosted the Amazing Thailand Festival 2025 at Thimphu’s Clock Tower Square, aiming to deepen tourism collaboration with Bhutan. Organized by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and the Office of Commercial Affairs in Dhaka, the event highlighted Thailand’s diverse attractions through interactive exhibits and cultural performances.

Interactive Experiences Highlight Thai Soft Power

Five “Must Do” Activities Captivate Bhutanese Visitors

The festival featured hands-on booths centered on Thailand’s soft power tourism strategy, including:

  • Must Taste: Cooking demos for Pad Thai and Som Tam.

  • Must Try: Umbrella painting and Muay Thai training sessions.

  • Must Buy: Souvenirs like elephant-themed crafts.

  • Must Seek: Photo zones with tuk-tuks and marine backdrops.

  • Must See: Traditional dance and Muay Thai performances.

Bhutan Emerges as a High-Potential Tourism Market

Quality Over Quantity: Thailand Targets Niche Travelers

While Bhutan represents a smaller market, TAT emphasized its high-value travelers, with 9,994 Bhutanese visitors recorded in early 2025 alone—a steady rise from 21,581 in 2024. Bhutanese tourists prioritize family-friendly leisure, health check-ups, and educational trips, aligning with Thailand’s wellness and medical tourism offerings.

“Two Kingdoms, One Destination” Campaign Expands

Bundled Travel Packages Link Bhutan and Thailand

The festival supports the joint tourism initiative launched in March 2025, offering 5–15-day bundled itineraries across both countries. Discussions also explored adopting Bhutan’s Sustainable Development Fee model to enhance Thailand’s eco-tourism credentials.

Cultural Performances Foster Diplomatic Bonds

Muay Thai and Dance Acts Draw Crowds

Live showcases included masked dance dramas and Muay Thai exhibitions, blending Thai storytelling with Bhutan’s own festival traditions like the Paro Tshechu. Thai officials highlighted the event’s role in strengthening bilateral relations through shared cultural heritage.

Thailand Eyes 39 Million Visitors in 2025

Grand Tourism Campaign Prioritizes Quality Tourism

The festival aligns with Thailand’s Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025, targeting 3 trillion baht in revenue from 39 million international arrivals. By focusing on niche markets like Bhutan, Thailand aims to diversify its visitor base while promoting sustainable practices.
