Songkran 2025 Draws Over 360,000 Visitors to Silom and Khao San Roads

Bangkok’s Songkran 2025 celebrations have set new records, with more than 360,000 people joining the festivities on Silom and Khao San roads during the first two days of the holiday. The vibrant event attracted both locals and international tourists, transforming the city’s main thoroughfares into lively hubs of water fights, music, and cultural performances. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) reported that Silom Road welcomed 165,239 visitors from noon to 10pm, while Khao San Road saw 197,314 revelers from midday to midnight.

BMA Implements Strict Measures to Ensure Public Safety During Celebrations

To manage the massive influx of visitors, the BMA’s command centre coordinated with officials from all 50 district offices, ensuring smooth operations and public safety throughout the event. Deputy permanent secretary Virat Manassanitwong directed the Office of Traffic and Transport to inspect and maintain all CCTV cameras in the celebration zones. Additional staff and volunteers worked around the clock to assist festival-goers, while police and district officials monitored vendors to prevent obstructions in pedestrian and evacuation areas.

Songkran 2025: Accidents and Emergency Response

Traffic Accidents and Fires Reported Amid Festive Activities

Despite the festive atmosphere, the city experienced 11 traffic accidents between April 11 and 13, resulting in 10 fatalities and four injuries. Five building fires were also reported, causing one death and eight injuries. Emergency services remained on high alert, with rapid response teams deployed to handle incidents and ensure the safety of all participants.

Songkran Boosts Travel and Tourism in Bangkok

Train Stations See Surge in Passengers During Songkran Holiday

The Songkran holiday also led to a surge in travel, with over 339,000 passengers using Krungthep Aphiwat Central Terminal and Hua Lamphong station from April 10 to 13. The southern railway line recorded the highest number of travelers, prompting the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) to add special services and deploy extra staff and police to maintain order and passenger safety. Travelers were reminded to adhere to safety regulations, including refraining from drinking and smoking on trains.

The festival not only boosted tourism but also reinforced Bangkok’s reputation for hosting world-class events, drawing visitors from around the globe.
